General Information
The course presents AI concepts through a variety of interactive and multimedia formats, including short theory sections, audio narration, animations, cartoons, video lessons, interactive activities, practical challenges, and knowledge-check quizzes. Some quizzes are integrated into video content to help learners check their understanding as they progress.
The course goes beyond passive learning. Learners actively explore new concepts, make predictions, identify patterns, analyse information, test ideas, and solve problems. Practical activities and challenges help them apply what they learn and investigate how AI systems work.
Recommended duration: Approximately 3.5–4 hours for the text-based and interactive components, excluding the time required to watch video content.
Assessment: Throughout the course, learners complete interactive activities and short knowledge checks, including quiz questions embedded in video content. These activities are designed to reinforce learning, check understanding, and provide opportunities to apply newly introduced concepts.
The course can be completed independently or with the support of a teacher, parent, or other adult facilitator. For younger learners, short breaks between sections are recommended, particularly during extended periods of multimedia learning.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain in simple terms what artificial intelligence is and describe some of its basic capabilities.
- Identify how machines use sensors and information to perceive and respond to their surroundings.
- Describe the basic principles of machine learning and explain how machines learn from examples and data.
- Recognize patterns in information and understand how AI systems use them to make predictions.
- Explain what a dataset is and why the quality and variety of examples can affect a machine learning system's results.
- Understand that AI systems can make mistakes and identify some reasons why this may happen.
- Explain what an algorithm is and recognize the importance of following steps in the correct order.
- Apply logical, critical, and algorithmic thinking to simple problems and practical challenges.
- Analyse information, test ideas, make predictions, and evaluate possible solutions.
By the end of the course, children will have a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and algorithms. They will be better prepared to explore programming, AI technologies, and digital tools while developing the logical, critical, and problem-solving skills needed for further learning.
Recommended Skills Prior to Taking This Course
No specialised prior knowledge or technical skills are required. The course is designed for children aged 8–10. Learners should be able to:
- Use a computer, tablet, or other suitable device to navigate the course.
- Interact with basic digital content, including selecting answers, clicking buttons, watching videos, and listening to audio.
- Read and understand simple instructions appropriate to their age.
- Follow step-by-step activities and complete short tasks independently.
- Observe information, identify simple patterns, make predictions, and explain their thinking.
The course introduces concepts progressively, so learners do not need previous experience with artificial intelligence or programming. Younger learners or those who need additional guidance may benefit from occasional support from a teacher, parent, or facilitator, particularly when completing interactive activities and knowledge checks.
A stable internet connection and a modern web browser are recommended to access the course's interactive activities, audio, animations, and video content.
