Students will explore the evolution of skirts, from traditional styles to modern variations, and learn the step-by-step processes involved in creating professional-quality garments.

  • Fabric Selection: Guidance on choosing suitable materials for different skirt designs, including linen, silk, wool, and knitted fabrics, with an emphasis on their properties and application in skirt construction.

The course delves into technical aspects such as:

  • Taking Measurements: Students will learn how to accurately measure for skirt construction, ensuring a perfect fit for various skirt designs.
  • Pattern Construction: Detailed instruction on designing skirts, including straight skirts, tapered skirts, half-sun and sun skirts, and wedge-shaped skirts.

Practical Sewing Techniques are a core component of this course, covering:

  1. Cutting and Sewing Methods: Techniques for cutting skirt details and processing components such as waistbands, pockets, and zippers. Special focus is given to the sequence of steps for sewing various types of skirts, including handling hidden zippers and slits.
  2. Sewing Equipment: Overview of machines used for skirt production, including zigzag stitch machines, hemming machines, and automatic sewing machines. Students will learn how to choose the right equipment for each task.

Skirt Finishing and Detailing are emphasized, with lessons on:

  • Finishing Techniques: Methods for finishing the upper cut of skirts with belts, trims, or elastic bands, as well as detailed processes for handling pockets and fasteners.
  • Accessories: Students will explore the use of zippers, buttons, and snaps, and how these accessories can be seamlessly integrated into the final skirt design.

The course also covers repairing skirts, with instruction on common types of skirt repair, from fixing zippers to adjusting seams and hemlines.

Additionally, students will gain insights into creating their own skirt collections, learning the stages of collection development, from conceptualization to final product. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the consumer market and tailoring designs to specific consumer groups.

By the end of the course, students will have the skills needed to design, sew, and finish skirts to a professional standard, drawing inspiration from Ukrainian designers and international trends.
